Student Research Competition 2017

Food safety has been and will always be a very important issue worldwide, and especially for a developing country like Cambodia where access to proper knowledge is limited. According to World Health Organization (2015), 1 in 10 people in the world annually fall ill as a result of eating contaminated food and foodbome diseases cause an estimated 420 0(X) deaths a year.

The issue of food safety is becoming critical and has drawn attention in Cambodian society in recent years. Eating unsafe food can make us sick and thus put additional burden to the finance of the family as well as the society as a whole. However, what is food safety? And, how can we promote food safety?

Food safety can be divided into two important stages. First is the production stage. Producing safe food, free from contaminated substance that is not good for human body. Second is the handling stage. The knowledge to safely handle, store, and prepare food to prevent infection and keep enough nutrients are equally essential.

Therefore, the Rector Council of Cambodia (NUM, RULE, RUPP, 1TC, UHS and PNCA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, is organizing the ‘Student Research Competition 2017' which focuses on “Food Safety”. The main question is: How can we promote food safety in Cambodia? And, it has 4 sub-questions as below:

1)How to produce safe food?

2)How to safely handle food?

3)How to promote food safety awareness?

4)How to promote law enforcement on food safety?
